Death of a Great

I am saddened to hear that the lion affectionately known as Bob Marley for his famously dreadlocked mane has passed away. Although most wild male lions are lucky to be the patriarch of a single pride, I was able to photograph two of his prides, and I’ve heard he had a third. I took these photos of him in 2016 in the Serengeti kopjes, and even at that time he was quite old. When we found him during mid-day sleeping next to his brother, Ziggy, we made the decision to wait, hoping that the pair would wake up before we had to return to camp per the park rules. After 3 long hours, the two lions rose at the last possible moment and we were able to take a few photos during the most glorious sunset imaginable; an unforgettable animal and afternoon.
